Postproduction is the process of putting together all of the elements that were established during production and using those elements to assemble the film. In this phase the movie is pieced together like a puzzle. At this point two roles emerge as most critical, the film editor and the sound editor. During this phase the film is finalized visually, sound is cleaned up, a score is written, and a soundtrack is put together.
Film postproduction involves some division of labor, but how that division is carried out, and how power is allocated to various roles, differs from film to film. The means of film postproduction imitates different conceptions of what film is, and the finished film certainly reflects the fashion of postproduction within which the film was created.
